Before you buy these types of beds for your kids, consider the age of the children and make strict rules regarding the use of the bed.

When you are trying to maximize the space in your room, purchasing a loft bed or bunk beds can be a great way to go. With loft beds, the bed is lifted up on a platform with space below suitable for storage, working, or playing.  Bunk beds for kids are also space savers but with another bed underneath the top bunk.  Kids love both these types of beds; they are exciting and different from the norm. Both help when there is limited space in a room; however, many parents worry about their safety.

It is unfortunate but true that every year, many kids are admitted to emergency rooms after falling from the top bunk of their bunk beds or loft beds. Fortunately most accidents are minor but it is possible to sustain more serious injuries because of the added height element. Typically, the main cause of injury with bunk beds is horseplay and not from any design problems. Simply kids love to play in bunk beds and this can lead to falls.

Before you buy these types of beds for your kids, consider the age of the children and make strict rules regarding the use of the bed.  Older children are just as much at risk as they will be more inclined to break rules and exhibit unsafe behavior.

With a few precautions bunk beds and loft beds can be just as safe as ordinary beds. Put younger kids in the lower bunk for instance instead of allowing them to regularly climb to the top bunk. Also when choosing a bed, make sure it is of strong construction and meets all current safety regulations and standards. Buying cheap kids beds is not the wisest move you will ever make, do not compromise safety for a few extra dollars. Another tip is to check the ladder as many bunk bed related falls are related directly to the ladder. Also take a little time to instruct your child on the best way to use the bed safely and make them aware of the added dangers.  A little thought and planning can greatly improve safety.
